Project 1-01 : Creating a writerdeck
Hi ! This is my first post of many ideas i want to do. I aim to make my own first simple cyberdeck, which will be mostly a writerdeck.
This is the different restrictions I choose for this project :
- Complexity : relatively easy to make (bc i'm a beginner), so less soldering as possible and no "diy" part (no pcb designing)
- Cheap : Very hard on this but no more than $250 if possible, for everything (exception for the e-ink display, which cost a lot more than an LCD one)
- Design : First very simple, just a case to "store" the different components then maybe creating a cooler case
- Connections : no internet, no wireless, only good old cable if needed
- Software : Light as possible, no GUI, only terminal and TUI apps
What I choose for the hardware for now :
- Brain (SBC) : Raspeberry pi zero 2 W (cheap and powerful enough, maybe overkill) - $20
- Screen : 7.5inch E-Ink display with HAT from Waveshare - $57
- Power supply : Power Supply UPS HAT For Raspberry Pi Zero from Waveshare - $24
About the keyboard :
- PCB : BM40 pcb from krepublic (40% ortholinear layout) - $47
- Plate : Carbon filter plate for BM40 from krepublic - $14
- Switches : Gazzew Boba U4 Silent - around $30 to have a full set (47 keys)
- keycaps : YMDK for otholinear keyboard (DSA profile) - $30
So without the case, i'm on a $222 budget (with $121 only for the keyboard).
For the case, i think i'll do it on FreeCAD then bc i don't have 3d printers, i will command the part on JLC3DP
The next step is to buy everything, making the barebone deck to see if everything works, then designing the all-in-one case. The next post will probably be in a few months because I'm a little busy right now.
